Film Premieres at SXSW 2010

Our documentary has been selected for inclusion in this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival held from March 12-16 in Austin, Texas.

It's an honor for any film to be chosen for this festival, which is one of the important and influential events in the world for independent documentary. Ours is one of 130 films drawn from this year's pool of more than 1,500 submissions. The screening in Austin in March will provide a fantastic opportunity to share John's work with some of the tens of thousands in attendance.

The film will show three times over the course of eight days at SXSW – twice during the film festival and then again during the famed music portion. Dates, times, and locations of these screenings in downtown Austin are:

Second Screening at the Paramount in Charlottesville – April 17, 2010

The Byrd Theater, co-hosted by the Richmond Peace Education Center.

Bergen International Film Festival

At our international premiere at the Bergen International Film Festival in Bergen, Norway in late October, World Peace and other 4th-Grade Achievements received the Audience Award for Best Film, selected from approximately 145 films from around the world. There were a number of incredibly good films, many of which have received wide international acclaim. This reinforces our confidence that the message and mission of spreading John's work truly does have world-wide appeal. We had eight separate screenings, four of which were directed specifically at students and educators. Festival Director Tor Fosse and his most gracious staff did amazing work in ensuring broad educational outreach, and John's example clearly inspired all audiences. Even before we won the award, John and I were overwhelmed by the generosity of spirit shown to us by the festival staff and the people of Bergen. Negotiations are now underway to have the film be represented by an educational distributor in Norway, ensuring that the film and John's work will be widely seen by students and educators throughout Norway. John has already been invited to return there during the summer of 2011 to continue extending the goal of inspiring and influencing young and future educators. Our hearts were truly touched by our experience in Bergen, and we look forward to the possibility of returning to Bergen and renewing the warm friendships that were created there during the festival.
